Sequins, Sparkles and Spangles...3/12/11
Sequins have been used to embellish the clothing of royalty in centuries past, even dating right back to the Egyptians, who especially loved their bling! They were made for Kings and Queens by rolling gold super thin, cutting out discs and then glazing them to prevent scratches. However, vintage sequins were not only made from gold, but mother of pearl, metals, crystal, celluloid or various early plastics.
Christmas is the ultimate sparkle season, and here at Violet Hill we have a shop full of sequins. Whether you want show stopping shimmer, a sultry Christmas berry red or a luxurious matt sequin as worn by Beyonce we have it covered – literally.
One of our favourites in the shop right now is the TFNC Paris Dress in Mint Green, our first delivery of this sold out within an hour of having it in the shop window, we did not even get a chance to upload it to the website! This amazing dress is the ultimate party dress of the season! However if the green is too bold for you, this dress is also available in a gorgeous gold perfect for the Christmas season.
Our latest arrivals from Motel feature a gorgeous long sleeved charcoal sequin on a luxuriant velvety fabric giving it that extra “Wow” factor. Or for a more subtle approach to sequins, from the same collection Motel have given us a gorgeous twist on a LBD, with a sexy mesh neckline teamed with a fabulous glitter detail. Also, if a Little Black Dress is your thing, they have a stunning but simple shift, adorned in beautiful black sequins.

Our favourite piece from the new TFNC collection is the ‘Sophie’ dress. It’s a cute short and sassy boob-tube dress in a beautiful berry red – perfect for the Christmas season!
Also one of our favourite pieces from Angel Jackson, is the stunning ‘Angelic Shimmy’ which just happened to be dripping in sequins, coins and a whole variety of embellishments. The perfect addition to glitz up any outfit.

How to flaunt with Fabric...29/10/11
Circles
Circles, also known as an apple - tend to carry weight around the mid section without a well-defined waist. However an apple’s shape does tend to have more narrow hips in proportion to their shoulders, and so can cause the tummy and bust look out of proportion. So, dressing is all about showing off those best bits and avoiding adding volume round your middle. A few key tips to remember when choosing an outfit is; - deep scoop/round necklines - keep necklines interesting, or add a chunky necklace to draw onlooker’s eyes upwards - empire cut dresses and tops are the most flattering style for an apple shape – nipping in the waist at the most crucial point gives the illusion of a waist, whilst emphasizing bust, but skimming over any protruding tummies - avoid any detailing around the stomach area – this will add extra bulk to the waist area, stick to flat fronted skirts - tailored wide leg jeans are the perfect way to put slimmer legs back into proportion with a bigger bust and tummy
Here at Violet Hill, we have the perfect styles to suit you luscious apples out there! For the day, we suggest the beautiful ‘Elizabeth’ Top from Darling. With it’s empire cut, and flowing chiffon - teamed with a simple pair of leggings, this outfit will flatter your figure all day long. And so for the evening, we have the Darling ‘Mabel’ dress. As we all know, black is the most slimming of colours, and the sparkling studded neckline and matching sleeves draw all the attention away from any unwanted areas, so this dress is all you need for a night out.

Hour Glass
An hour glass figure is said to be the most desired of the body shapes, with voluptuous curves – a bigger bust and bottom to contrast a tiny, and visibly nipped in waist being the standard tell-tale signs of an hour glass – we can see why! So, hour glass girls take note of how not to drown your gorgeous figure in fabric; - a V neck-line will show off a fantastic bust perfectly - waist clinching belts are a standard for your figure, this will emphasize those curves fabulously - knee-length is best for an hour glass, skimming over any unsightly thighs - a wrap dress is the most flattering style, housing the three key elements to the perfect hour glass outfit.
At Violet Hill we have the stunning ‘Feather at Dawn Diversity Dress’ from Traffic People. This dress when belted will nip in that tiny waist, and emphasize those curves with it’s gorgeous pleats and gathers in all the right places. For the evening, we have the super sexy ‘Camilla’ from Forever Unique. This gorgeous bodycon dress defines perfect for an hourglass figure.

Celebrities Rock the High Street!....26/10/11
First to set the trend of dressing paparrazi favourites was Lipsy. Back in the day it was popular with the likes of Katie Price, Footballers Wags, even the odd Spice Girl has been known to hit the red carpet in a little Lipsy number!

More recently Lipsy have taken this idea one step further and have commissioned the gorgeous Pixie Lott with her very own Lipsy collection, which is proving to be ever popular - www.myviolethill.com/Lipsy-Pixie-Lott-Collection/

Nowadays the red carpet is more likely to be graced with High Street fashion rather than Haute Couture. Up and coming fashion brands have realised that this is the best way to get attention from the press.

From Soapstars to Reality TV stars we are now seeing a broader spectrum of celebrities in Highstreet Fashion, even the Queen of the Jungle Kerry Katona loves to be seen in one of our favourite brands Forever Unique - /www.myviolethill.com/Forever-Unique/ . As trends are constantly changing it is comforting to know that you do not have to spend a fortune to look as good as your own personal favourite!
Even the TOWIE girls are looking fabulous in a range of ‘Hybrid’ dresses - www.myviolethill.com/clothing-Hybrid/ . The latest addition available at Violet Hill.

From the cast of TOWIE - Lucy Mecklenburgh has decided to launch her own website where you can purchase items that she has been seen in on the show itself. This is a great way to get that "Essex" glamour in your wardrobe!
Street Vs Designer....22/10/11
With the likes of Matthew Williamson’s collection at Debenhams, to Christopher Kane designing for Topshop, the fashion world is no stranger to collaborations. Fashion houses have been bringing their couture chic to our affordable high-street stores since perms and leg warmers were the main fashion statements. However, are designer/high street collaborations luxurious fast fashion, or watered down designer? It would seem that our question will be answered, in the form of Lanvin..
When news first broke back in September, that Swedish high-street staple H&M, and French fashion house Lanvin were set to join forces, fashionistas around the world went into shock. Artistic Director Alber Elbaz confirmed the rumours that he has created a collection to launch in November. True to his word, Elbaz has maintained the essence of Lanvin, and so H&M has gone super-luxe – but it’s still affordable. This collection is the latest in a long line of designer collaboration since 2004 for H&M, which started with Karl Lagerfield. Since then the likes of Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli and Jimmy Choo have all followed in Lagerfield’s footsteps and created affordable designer luxury collections – all of which have sold out not minutes after launching.
However, this collection is set to be a cut above the rest, as Lanvin isn’t just any old luxury label, it is one of France’s most exclusive fashion houses, and at the height of it’s game. So what can we expect? Well, Elbaz has made it clear that Lanvin would not alter its value or quality for the collaboration. So expect Lanvin’s usual mix of gorgeous Parisian flair – ruffles and mini dresses, leopard print, sequins and faux fur, and of course a Lanvin collection would not be the same without stunning tailoring. Luxury has won out, so most of all; we can expect to be buying Lanvin. Lanvin design, flair and style, at a tenth of the price.

Olivia Rubin for ChloBo
An upcoming designer collaboration close to the heart of Violet Hill is British fashion designer Olivia Rubin’s collection for ChloBo. November 4th sees the launch of this gorgeous eight-piece range, which has taken inspiration from Olivia’s signature prints, with ChloBo’s classic sparkle bracelets and long necklace charm necklaces.

Prints, prints, prints – polka dots to plaid.... 10/10/11
Polka Dots
Gracing everything from cocktail dresses to ballet shoes, spots have taken over from stripes this season, and there’s only one rule for the polka dot trend – the bigger the spot the better. Playful and provocative, just as Stella McCartney intended, team with more of this season’s clashing prints if you’re feeling fashion forward.

Here at my Violet Hill, we have a polka dots in all shapes and sizes, from cute tea dresses with tiny polka dots, to our personal favourite – a gorgeous oversized, asymmetric, supersize polka dot top.
Plaid
Designers went mad for tartan plaid this autumn/winter, with the likes of Burberry showing us gorgeous bold red prints in coats, and full length dresses – plaid is not for the faint hearted.

Leopard Prints
Animal prints never seem to go out of fashion, and the jungle has firmly set up camp on the runway for this season. A touch of leopard print adds elegance to any outfit, whether it’s in the form of a pair of killer heels, a delicate chiffon blouse, or an oversized clutch that’s adorned in spots – all you need is a statement piece to make your look feline fabulous. Although, it’s not the leopard that is the King of the Jungle with this trend, giraffe print is on its way up to steal the throne.
Violet Hill certainly isn’t short of animal print this season, and our favourite pieces come in the shape of a beautiful Jovonna tea dress, and a sexy cropped Traffic People top.

Metallics... 8/10/11
It’s no big secret that metallic dresses are indeed show stoppers all by themselves, without being accompanied by accessories. In recent months red carpets all over the world have showcased this new trend.

From left to right, Kim Kardashian flaunted her curves in a Kaufman Franco dark gold halter- neck gown. LeAnn Rimes dazzled in a gold Reem Acra sequined gown. Heidi Klum in a sequined Julien Macdonald number with cut-out shoulders.
Metals of all shades are the current inspiration of many designers and its not only restricted to clothing, but also bags, shoes, belts etc!
To compliment the gorgeous jewel tones of Ruby, Emerald and Sapphire currently seen this season, Autumn/Winter is bringing us hues that shimmer with a futuristic shine. With colours ranging from dull and dirty khaki to platinum, from aged bronze to shimmering gold - and everything in-between.
Dolce & Gabbana have led the way down the catwalk with a simple yet statement take on the metallic trend showing us an entirely sequinned shift dress embossed with perspex stars that glisten down the catwalk.
At Mulberry a stunning pewter floor length maxi which was worn on the catwalk dress down with a parker coat.

Many of us are not celebrities and the trend has been adopted by the High Street stores, but in a far more modest version. Here at Violet Hill we have the perfect blend of futuristic metallics, simple yet statement in the form of our new TFNC collection. At one end of the metallic spectrum is this stunning silver dress that is everything you need to be part of this shimmering trend.

At the other end is this gorgeous gold bodycon dress adorned completely in sequins, its perfect for the festive season. With a slight shoulder pad it also embraces the 80's trend currently seen on the catwalks and in the High Street.

Now coming into Christams 2011, the Metallic trend continues, stronger than ever!!
Spring/Summer 2012... 1/10/11
One of the only small beacons of light during the darkness of the looming winter months is the thought of the Spring/Summer collections. Spring is blossoming with romance for 2012. Paris showed us beautiful sheer flowing garments, in delicate neutrals from Dior, and Nina Ricci. For the day, team a sheer blouse with a flowing A-Line skirt, but swap for a bold, bright pencil skirt for the evening to achieve sultry Spring chic.

In contrast to the classic spring look, the new year is bringing us a new option for our Spring/Summer wardrobes’, if all the innocence isn’t for you. Vivienne Westwood and Lanvin have caused a Gothic drama amongst the chiffon and pretty pastels. With the already seductive shape for the season - the pencil skirt - add a diamond encrusted serpent, and a darker edge to the neutrals for full on super sexy vamp.

However, pushing the fashion limits space high on the catwalks for Spring/Summer is Gareth Pugh. With his famous futuristic creations, more storm trooper than super chic which are adored by the likes of Lady Gaga, Gareth Pugh has taken his usual elaborate and complex designs and made them even more so, by developing the standard box shape and introducing the figure hugging trends of the season in his own particular way.

Bring on the Bling ... 28/09/11
With the financial world slowly overcoming the recession, the fashion world is going all out on bling in celebration. Whatever your style, this season minimalism is out and it’s is all about decadence, bringing a touch of glamour to your Autumn/Winter wardrobe. Opulence is emerging in the form of all that adorns a piece of clothing, including, feather and fringing, studs and sequins, rhinestones, gems, and lace, to name but a few.
Feathers
As seen in recent shows at the likes of Chanel, Matthew Williamson, and Roberto Cavalli, feathers add a touch of luxuriance to any garment. From Chanel’s dresses adorned completely in feathers, to Matthew Williamson’s more subtle feather trim on his dresses, feathers bring the luxe look to any outfit - perfect for this season’s decadent demands.
Ticking every one of the feather trend boxes is our own Jovonna dress. The gorgeous cream flapper style dress has feather-look trim on the tiny cap sleeves, to match the completely feathered skirt. What more could you want for your feather needs?
Crystals
Another way to luxe up your wardrobe for the winter is with crystals, gems, sequins and rhinestones. All you need is a subtle cluster of sparkle. Team this with flowing chiffon, ruffles or bodycon or this seasons gorgeous gem colours for a full on Hollywood glamour effect.
We have the perfect supply of glitter for any occasion in the form of the new Forever Unique collection. The stunning Camilla dress is our favourite, with the embellishment even giving a 3D effect.
Beads and Sequins
In contrast to the feathers and sparkle comes the more traditional beaded and sequinned items, ranging from embellished shoulder pads, to studded shoes, and sequinned necklines.
A classic example comes from the new Angel Jackson collection. The stunning clutch/shoulder bag is completely embellished with a variety of beads, sequins, old coins and other precious objects.
Red is for ………12/09/11
Red hot, scarlet lady – connotations with the colour red have always been associated with danger and excitement. So this Autumn/Winter the hot colour to wear is bright, bright red.
The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets you noticed and will definitely attract attention.
If you’re looking for something hot to warm up our dull Autumn weather then this gorgeous coat from Fever could be the perfect cover up.
For the really brave the current trend is to team your red outfit with a dash of animal print. Pony print, leopard print, zebra stripe anything goes. Try these gorgeous leopard print shoes from Beyond Skin.
For a bold, daring and totally fabulous Little Red Dress, head to Forever Unique. For Glitz and Glam they can’t be beaten and they have some gorgeous sexy LRD’s this season.
In the workplace full on red might be considered too much. Add a colour pop of red to your boring black worksuit with this cherry red shirt from Fever. The tiny white dots soften the brightness of the red and tick yet another of this Season’s trends.
However, if you still feel that red screams “look at me” - compromise. Look at accessories in slightly darker tones of reds such as the beautiful deep red garnet used by ChloBo to produce their latest collection – Smoulder.
![]() |
![]() |
Whether you choose the option of the LRD to make a seriously, sexy statement of go for the softer option of an accessory to lift your outfit it seems that the colour red is here to stay and the LRD is now upstaging the LBD.

Winter Wonders – 15/08/11
This year brings a variety of wondrous ways to wrap up warm for the winter. Last Autumn the classic “camel” coat was the “must have” investment for your wardrobe. However, in A/W 11 – it seems anything goes where coats are concerned:-
Fur, embellished, muted brights, belted, Dalmatian spots, capes, military, androgyny, blanket coats, the maxi length, 50’s classically tailored and the perennial favourite - the trench. Here are three of our top style picks.
The Classic Trench
The classic trench remains a winter wardrobe staple, especially as this season it meets the demands of the sophisticated cuts, and elegantly fitting trends as seen on the catwalk, with designers adding belts to their coats to emphasize a feminine figure.

The pinnacle of trench coats is, of course, the Burberry Trench. Designed and made to last forever since 1901, the Burberry Trench coat is an icon, with it’s all weather versatility and ageless style.
50’s Classic Tailoring
Although the A/W 11 collections have only just started to arrive we have already taken delivery of a coat that ticks many of the trends. In a dark marl grey, this Darling Gwen coat evokes memories of the tailored and fitted clothing of the fifties. This beautiful knee length double breasted coat fits perfectly round the upper body and flares out from the waist over the hips in gentle pencil pleats. Embellished with a detachable flower corsage this coat is the last word in understated elegance.
Androgyny
Another big trend this season is the arrival of coats that look like you have borrowed them from your boyfriend. Clean minimal lines in pinstripe, flannel and the more luxurious wool and cashmere. Throw it around your shoulders and you will feel as though the man in your life has lovingly draped his coat around you. We may be going for the boyish look but we still want to keep it sexy. Team it with patent brogues, wool cigarette pants and your boyfriend's crisp white shirt for a daytime look. Throw in some sequins and a satin tuxedo to give you that evening glamour. A look that was epitomized on the catwalk by Michael Kors.

These are just three of our favourite trends – the choice is endless – whatever your budget!
The Lengths We Go To .....
Throughout history when a Recession hits the skirt lengths drop to floor length maxis and when there is a boom they rise to impossible to wear bottom skimming minis. This season, however, skirts are appearing in three main lengths - the mini, the maxi and the new addition the midi. So a girl's dilemma is which length do I wear?
The Mini
Do only single girls wear mini skirts? Don't be afraid to show some leg this season. The mini skirt is a must over the Winter season. Appearing on the catwalks in tweeds, pleats, ruffles, leather and sequins the mini can be teamed with black opaques, brogues and a plain top to keep it classy during the day. Add towering platforms and a sheer blouse and the look will take you through from work to evening. Here's our pick of three of the best mini skirts at the moment .....

The Midi
Although a difficult length to wear the midi is described as this season's most elegant and feminine look. A midi skirt is not just below the knee, it is mid-calf and varies in style from 50's Pencil Skirts, gentle A'line shapes, pleated, or a fluted trumpet shape. The midi can be a difficult length to wear and it is important not to choose anything too full or in too heavy a fabric. This length of skirt can be sexy and sophisticated with inspiration drawn from the costumes of the TV Series Mad Men. The only question is - are you a Betty of a Joan - wholesome, feminine and full-skirted or sexy and alluring in a fitted pencil shape?

The Maxi
The first appearance of the Maxi length was an Oscar de La Renta dress in cotton lace created for the Elizabeth Arden Salon in 1968. Its real heyday came in the 1970's. Generally made from floral prints and polyester it sat alongside similar kaftan and boho styles. For A/W '11 the maxi skirt has returned again with extra detailing like fish-tail hem. Layered up during the day with soft knits and cashmere the Winter maxi looks best worn with flat brogues or boots. Top tip for a maxi skirt - make sure you don't wear a dress that is too long!

Return to Neverland .....
The Peter Pan collar is making a resurgence due to it being an 'A' list fashion favourite. Although it may seem early to start updating your wardrobe for Autumn the current changeable British weather makes the versatility of these retro dresses and blouses suitable for teaming with festival sunnies and sandals right now or opaque tights and boots once the summer is a distant memory.
The collar takes its name from the costume worn by the hero in the J.M. Barrie 1904 production of Peter Pan. Described as a small, flat, round-cornered collar the Peter Pan collar first came to prominence in the early and mid-20th century. Since then it has reappeared in a softer more feminine form especially throughout the sixties. Today's version appears on all shapes of dresses, blouses, cardigans and tops. It is also possible to update your existing round necks with a collar detail which could be plain, lace, leather or even elaborately jewelled.

The 'A' List influence of style setters Alexa Chung and Fearne Cotton who are fans of this look has already filtered through to the new Autumn/Winter 11 collections arriving at Violet Hill. Miss Patina, Lipsy and Dahlia all have dresses featuring the Peter Pan collar some of which have been accessorised with jewels, buttons or bows.

Behind the Scenes at My Violet Hill... 01/08/2011
Today we spent a few hours at the photographers, Studio 190 in Billericay, shooting the new Darling A/W'11 collection with some new Lipsy and Miss Patina pieces also included. We would also like to introduce our gorgeous models, Eleanor, Cydnie and Helen, who all look great in the new Seasons collection.
Below are a few photos taken during the shoot to give you a sneak peek at what goes on behind the scenes at My Violet Hill.com!

Happy 18th Birthday jess!......29/07/11

Happy birthday Jess, have a lovely day from everyone at Violet Hill!!
Breaking news......27/07/11

Early this morning Cuddley Dudley was wrongly accused of breeching the noise abatement act! ....The accusation was made by an anonymous 'barking' mad individual. The jury have come back with the only verdict 'Not Guilty'.
Pixie Lott's clothing collection....26/07/11
The latest collaboration between Lipsy and Brentwood's own Pixie Lott was showcased in the Daily Mail yesterday. Although full details of the collection have not been released yet it is rumoured that it will hit the shops around September when her latest single is also due to be released.
As Pixie has blossomed so have her collections as seen in this exclusive shot from her recent Lipsy fashion shoot.

Going into the Party season the collection features diamante, sequins, beading and studs in blacks reds and jewel colours.
The collections is absolutely stunning and will be available from MyVioletHill.com as soon as it is released.
Our thoughts for the families of Norway 23/07/11
Due to the tragic events that have unfolded yesterday afternoon and evening in Norway we do not feel it is appropriate to post our normal "This Was the Week That Was" blog.
Our thoughts and respects are with those who will have been deeply affected by the tragedy.
Norway is the birth place of the Nobel Peace Prize and as such is well known for its peaceful existence. Below are a few images to remind us of the true Norway, a beautiful country which must be reeling after the events of yesterday.

Pixie Lott has gone for the chop for the release of her new single and we love it!... 20/07/2011
The British pop princess debuted her new 'do' at the weekend on a trip to the Radio 1 studios in London. Her hippy-chic flowing blonde waves have been replaced by a quirky blunt-cut layered bob. We think the new style really suits Miss Lott and gives her an air of maturity.

The pop world dictates that if you want career longevity reinvention is key and that is exactly what Pixie has done as her new single is already getting air play on the radio.

Is the image change also connected to the new Lipsy Pixie Lott collection which is rumored to be released in September? Check out her previous collection that is also in sale at Violet Hill now.
ChloBo 'Summer Love' Collection featured in HEAT magazine 19/07/2011
Fresh out for this week is Heat magazine and on StarStyle 'Find it!' page is our very own ChloBo!
The bracelets in question are from this summers 'Summer Love' collection, which have been pap'ed on (one of our favourite signers of the moment) Ellie Goulding, during a recent gig of hers! We would agree with HEAT and Ellie that these bracelets certainly are a "find"!

Lovebox and Latitude – is it possible to stay stylish in the rain? 19/07/2011
Festival lovers will know that the weekend that just passed was a big one for UK Festivals. Lovebox, the East London boutique music festival was held this weekend, as well as the more theatrical Latitude Festival in Suffolk.
As usual, the British summertime weather was trying its best to dampen everybody’s spirits with two days of glorious rain! So spare a thought for all the festival goers over the weekend who had to contend with the rain and mud whilst attempting to retain their image of cool festival chic.
We were most amused by Alexa Chung’s fashion tip for the weekend; wrap up warm
, well that kind of goes without saying Alexa…
Also we can’t quite work out just what look Beth Ditto was after, with this giant green poncho piece! Maybe an homage to Kermit the Frog? Who knows!

Below are a few of our favourite style picks of the weekend!

This was the week that was... 16/07/2011
Saturday - Our favourite fashionista's of the week.

Friday - Fact or Fiction? Incredible as it may seem the new clothing line by Joey Essex is to be stocked in Selfridges. If we all wear them will we reach 'reem' status too? For all you Joey Essex Fans here's the man himself to brighten up a rainy weekend. 'Look Reem, Smell Reem, Be Reem'

Thursday - As an homage to the cast of Shrek especially Amanda Holden, our very own Hayley Allen (who saw the performance on Wednesday night) insisted that the website team post this picture of her being Shrek'ed.

Wednesday - New Miss Patina stock arrived today and is already on the website for you to see.

Tuesday - Violet Hill/MyViolethill.com went into sale. The Lupo bags are proving to be very popular !

Monday - WE HATE MONDAYS!

Sale time ! ... 14/07/2011
Its that time of year again, when many of our brands including Dyberg/Kern, Forever Unique, Lola Rose to name but a few have an amazing 25% discount. Today Violet Hill has been buzzing with excited customers reaching sale fever. I have chosen a selection of my favorite items in the sale to share with you online.
I am loving the Jovonna Feather Maxi Dress teamed with a gorgeous pair of Dyberg/Kern earrings, the Drancine set in Shiney Gold with the matching Lilalia bracelet compliments it well.
Whilst looking through all the amazing Angel Jackson collection i came across the Feather Tote bag with studs and chain detail. The individual design caught my eye, with a mix of boho chic and daytime glamour, this tote combines beautiful long feathers with black leather and a large gold studded section with an exposed chain around the opening.
Be the envy of all your friends and place your order now!The Duke of Essex Polo... 12/07/2011
Is it true the Duke of Essex Polo is going to be renamed the Annual Re-union of Jordan's Exes? Her own personal polo team of four of her exes arrived at the bash at Gaynes Park, Epping. Unfortunately the Captain herself had failed to inform them that she was actually playing at a match in Wiltshire and therefore Team Jordan had to withdraw much to our disappointment. (Take a moment to visualise the four handsome stallions below trying to play polo)

Aside from that it was lovely to see the TOWIE girls out in force promoting Essex as only they know how!

Our inside source said a great day was had by all! (Although we dont think she actually remembers much at all!)
Autumn/Winter 2011 What's HOT ... 09/07/11
Trends for Autumn/Winter 2011 range from Fetish to Forties Glamour. Other trends include Super Glam, Jewel tones, Print and Pattern and the Sixties Scene.
Revolving around the pencil skirt the Forties Glamour includes fur, pearls, gloves and shrugs. Think classic Chanel.

Fashion's palette has moved on from summer's acid brights and paintbox pots of colour into the sumptuous realm of jewel tones for Autumn Winter. Amethyst, sapphire, emerald, ruby and garnet have the power to make you feel sensuous and sophisticated.

The Sixties has always been a favourite era for fashion to draw inspiration from. Fashion has gone back in time leaving the summer of obsession with the 70's and replacing with a fascination with all things 'Mod'. Imagine the doe eyed look of Twiggy and Edie Segdwick and the supreme style of fashion icon Mary Quant.
Fashion goes A-List...... 06/07/11
Have you noticed the current trend for A-List celebrities creating their own fashion lines - Project D by Danni Minogue, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Forever Unique by Alex Gerrard and House of Dereon by Beyonce and Tina Knowles. Probably the most famous A-List celebrity in the UK having their own fashion brand is Victoria Beckham. The Former Spice Girl is adding another less expensive line called 'Victoria' by Victoria Beckham to her already successful collections. Hubby David Beckham is also due to release his underwear line later on this year!

Following Beyonce's fabulous performance at Glastonbury we can't wait for the House of Dereon collection to hit town as it will be launched with a bang at Selfridges in September. Shortly after that it will be found in stores across the UK.
Here at Violet Hill we are currently stocking dresses from the Forever Unique by Alex Gerrard collection. They are absolutely Gorgeous!
Celebrity collections always seem to do well - probably because the A-List star behind them is always in the press!
Glasto and Summer Festivals - What to wear? - 19/06/11
Gone are the days where it was fine to turn up to a festival in a tie-dye shirt, hemp-weave pants and leather sandals. Todays festivals are now a summer cornerstone of the British fashion calendar - with an attire ethics code all of their own - not to mention the demands of being prepared for all weathers. Lets face it, the British summer is never one to be relied upon! It is difficult to look gorgeous with no full length mirror and added to this the fact that you have to (well the boyf!) has to carry a whole carefully prepared wardrobe to and from the festival!!!
So what to choose that means you with be looking hot even if the weathers not?
We have thought hard at MyVioletHill.com and come up with a Glasto/Summer festival "Must Have" list.
No self confessed festival fashionista could be without a cute summer dress - we have chosen the Hedonia Annie Heart Cut Out Dress in Pink as this gorgeous dress is just screaming for open fields with its cute pinky/peach floral print and heart shaped cut out back.

Well thats good if its a hot summers day but what about the cooler evenings?? The Maxi dress is the answer! Here we have chosen the Jovonna Feather Maxi Dress, for its a modern homage to the 1960's Summer festivals dresses. With its gorgeous multi-coloured feather design this maxi is a must have for festival evenings spent dancing into the morning!

So thats the dresses covered - what about the jewellery?
We just could not decide between these two boho inspired bracelets so we decided to show them both!
The first is from a new British designer, Dana Levy. The bracelet is in a subtle orange with gold hamsa hand charm - hopefully the hamsa will protect us from any rain!

The second is a bracelet that is a must for all festivals. A beautiful ChloBo turquoise bead bracelet with contrasting peace sign charm. Very evocative of the Summer or Love festivals in the 60's.

Now to footwear!
No one should go to a festival in the UK without a pair of wellies! (Without them - be prepared for soggy toes!) So as probably your most necessary item why not use them to complete your look. Hunter wellies are always popular but they come at a price - so shop around because there are always cheaper options, and lets face it, when are you next going to wear those Hunters?? Just remember a pair a wellies won't only come in handy in the rain, but they will keep your feet safe and dry when negotiating the festival loos that have been overflowing since the very first day! It does not bear thinking about that situation with open-toes.... We found these gorgeous 'Cupcake' wellies for under £15!!

So thats the outfit and jewellery sorted, what about other essentials? We have make a shortlist of must have items below: Wet Wipes
Happy Camping or Glamping if you're really lucky!!!
It's the Small Things ...... 17/06/11
It's Friday, it's pouring with rain, it's the middle of June and the heating is back on - and we are working on Saturday. Can it get much worse - in one word - no. A delivery driver drips his way through the door and to our great surprise a slightly sodden package of NEW ChloBo Jewellery is deposited on our front Reception Desk. The gloom is lifted and the sun shines once more as we eagerly unwrap the ChloBo parcel.
Not expected until next week we have been teased by the ChloBo team with images and rumours of new pendants.

The girls in the shop have already placed their orders! We love the ChloBo especially the Medium Ball Disk bracelet with Elephant Charm and the Cute Charm with the Small Buddha Head.

A Spiritual Summer? - 07/06/11
This summer has bought a trend for talisman and charm jewellery with spiritual meanings. Some of the most widely used are the Hamsa Hand, the Evil Eye, the Dove and Peace Sign all of which feature in our collections from Dana Levy, Karin Ravelli and ChloBo.
The Hamsa Hand is widely seen as a symbol offering protection from evil and misfortune and can be worn with the fingers pointing up or down. It is believed to offer its owner happiness, peace and prosperity as well as protection from the evil eye! With a celebrity interest in Kabbalah and mystical Judaism the Hamsa hand has truly come back into vogue and features heavily in the current collection from Dana Levy and the new mini collection from ChloBo.
The Dove also has its roots embedded in religious symbolism and has long been admired as a symbol of peace and a messenger of deep symbolic love. This summer the symbol of the Dove can be found in ranges from Karin Ravelli and Dana Levy. The Dove has been updated to the more modern Peace sign as used in the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament in the 80's ChloBo's recent best selling Summer Love collection showcased this to great effect with the capsule collection being a triumphant success.
The Evil Eye - the name alone leads many to believe the charm itself is evil. Not so - the evil eye protects and is a Luck Charm believed to reflect evil and protect the wearer from misfortune and bad things being willed onto you by others.
If someone "gives you the evil eye", they are effectively cursing you with a look. The Evil Eye is used to guard against malevolent thoughts and subconscious wishes for bad luck that can be transferred through the eyes. If your Evil Eye were to break or crack it would be thought to have done its job and it would be necessary to replace it. The ChloBo Evil Eye bracelets have been made with the traditional cobalt blue colour but the Dana Levy range includes eyes surrounded by different colours which offer additional protection of a more specific nature, such as green for happiness and turquoise for health.
A final word of advice – carry an evil eye with you at all times - if you don’t appreciate being given the evil eye you should refrain from giving it to others!
In a world of turmoil the jewellery above could bring a little peace, love, tranquility and protection into your life. Try it and see!

Festival Chic - 20/05/11
Following on from the recent post 'Ascot - Whats a Gal to do?' I failed to mention one of the most notable dates for any girls summer diary‚that being the festival.
Be it Vfest, Glasto, or Reading & Leeds (to name but a few) the summer festival has acquired a name for itself. Moving away from that status, today festival is dubbed a fashion catwalk in its own right. You only have to look at Kate Moss donning her Hunter Wellies in 2006 to see that the festival look has taken a complete U-turn since.
So whats a girl to do? The conundrum stands that you need to look stylish but effortless and practical but cool. So, in light of this I put together my top festival tips:
1. Hats. Gone is the chance to straighten your hair and spend hours in front of the mirror. A nightmare, unless you come armed with a hat or accessory which will shade your locks come day 2. Braided Siren Sun Hat
2. Shoes. No sky heels girls, actually no heels at all. Flats are the way to go, whether it is some pretty flip flops or a stylish wellie.Havaiana Issa in Black
3. Wrap up. You know the British weather can be unpredictable. A small cover up is perfect as it fits in your bag, but equally looks stylish.Darling Libby Cardigan in Taupe
4. Bags. The festival essential. You need something of decent proportion but something that equally shouts back'.Lupo Abanico Masai Stitch Pleated Handbag in Brown
5. Funky Jewellery. You might need some colourful jewellery to draw attention away from those muddy wellies!ChloBo Summer Love 15 mm Red Bead Bracelet with Peace Sign
So there you have it, my festival style tips! And as for those little extras, don‚ forget your hand sanitiser, pocket tissues, sunblock and shades. Oh yes, and your mobile phone charger‚ most festivals now have emergency charge up booths, so you can always stay in touch with your festival party!
Enjoy!

The countdown has begun. Only days to go before we take delivery of the 'Summer Love' collection from ChloBo Jewellery. The only key accessory you will need throughout the summer. Perfect for Glastonbury or V Festival, a must have to take on holiday or if neither of the above apply just a bit of fun to brighten the British summer days. You will not take these bracelets off all summer!
ChloBo have created this cool mini fun collection, the Summer Love bracelets come in a range of colours, both large bead and small bead they are perfect for you all to wear alongside Ju Ju and silver!!! Or just to take on holiday to St Tropez, Ibiza or maybe Miami LOL to wear as a single!!

Ascot - Whats a Gal to do? - 09/05/11
Summer is that one time of year where a gal feels that ever growing pressure to look well, fabulous. It's when you expose the pins that have been covered up all winter, the feet that have been hidden by Uggs and the arms wrapped up in knits. AND if that wasn't enough to worry about, there are those summer occasions...the pool and garden parties, and of course the beach.
BUT one occasion where I breathed one big sigh of relief for this year is Ladies Day at Ascot.
Admittedly, last year it put me into a spin. I spent weeks, actually months scouring the high street for that perfect dress. As let face this is one day where you have to look preened, polished and perfect! From the dress, to the shoes to that ever important hat, this is one occasion you cannot afford to get wrong.
So, learning from experience I have defined my key Ascot Dress Criteria:
1. Don't go for that short dress its unsophisticated, un-classy and will undo your day before it has started as the officials won't stand for it! Go for something around the knee: Forever Unique Susie Dress
2. Simple jewellery 'bling' isn't the optimum word here. Think Kate Middleton not Katie Price and you will be bang on trend and look elegant: ChloBo Small Ball Bracelet with Dream Ball Charm
3. Have something that will take the chill off - of course the weather WILL be fabulous, but you never know....just in case: Darling Lillian Cardigan in Taupe
4. Avoid sky high heels - they will pitch you to the grass, and I can almost guarantee you wonÄôt last the day in them. Try something like this: Beyond Skin Stella Heel in Red Suede
I close with saying enjoy! It'ss one of those occasions were you can help but get swept up in the ‘hoi paloi’ and what is one of those great British catwalk occasions!

Californian born, Robbie French developed her design company in her small Venice Beach apartment in 2002 after spending ten years running some of LA's hottest hotel bars, including SKYBAR, Casa Del Mar and The Standard Downtown. Those years cultivated Robbie's rock n' roll style, which came through in her designs of buckles & belts. After successfully placing her designs in LA's hottest stores such as Neiman Marcus, Fred Segal, Planet Bleu, Lisa Kline, & Under Cover, Robbie French Designs soon outgrew it's humble origins of her small apartment. Her creativity and success opened other avenues and now she also designs for Roxy accessories, Roxy Girl accessories, and Pamela Anderson's Belt Collection!
Robbie French Designs are still produced in the U.S.A, and now they are featured in over 300 boutiques around the country and outfitting A-List celebrities such as Madonna, Nicholas Cage, Kimberly Stewart, the cast of Friends, Korn and members of rock band Velvet Revolver. Whether on the beach teaching at her year round Surf School (sponsored by Quiksilver) or being creative at her Venice Beach office, Robbie is the epitome of a Californian girl. Her ongoing optimism and carefree attitude creates the vision of success that she implements through passion, faith, and determination. Her goal is to combine her two passions of fashion designing and surfing by creating a non-profit organization where part of her proceeds go toward a surf camp for underprivileged kids. She believes that everything is possible if you want it enough, and encourages others to take risks because that is the only way you can make a change!
Janice Dickinson Has Fun Wearing Jovonna at a Brit Awards Screening and Charity Auction for Haiti - 23/04/10
Star Janice Dickinson was spotted having a great time at a Brit Awards Screening and Charity Auction to help Haiti in London last week. Sex and The City Style! The Jovonna Barbara shirt was featured on This Morning on 25th May, on their Sex and the City featurette. We think their Miranda model looks uncannily like the real one!Mina Clothing S/S '10 - 06/04/10
Dear Mina Customers,
Just as the Summer sun finally looked like he was here to stay, those dreaded rain clouds whipped his hat off faster than we could say "sun screen"...But that's okay! It certainly doesn't mean we have to swap our pretty dresses for jumpers just yet! The third and final release of Mina UK's S/S 2010 collection is fast approaching, with photo shoot plans well and truly under way. The irresistible selection of chic strappy numbers, volumous shapes and, of course, those statement prints, will be enough to keep our spirits up until the leaves turn brown and crispy! The Mina UK Spring/Summer collection has had a wonderful time over these past few months, with an abundance of press and attention. This week, Look Magazine published a feature on "WOW Dresses", choosing their favourite pieces from a mixture of designer and high street labels. With so many Mina favourites, they ended up selecting 3 of our most sought-after dresses, including one from our beloved sister label, T-Style.
Our mid-month blues were instantly uplifted on Monday, when we received a courtesy call from the delightful Denise Van Outen, thanking us for the Mina dresses that we sent to her during her pregnancy. She chatted us about the birth of baby Betsy, and even informed us that she had been papped walking in Hampstead Heath, wearing this season's Fay Dress! We then found the picture a day later, and were in awe of her fantastic post-baby figure.
Then, our friends at Mizz Magazine sent us a sneak preview of the front cover of next week's issue, where they chose their new favourite label, T-Style, to grace the page. They added a splash of festival chic, and styled the dress with a denim jacket and adorable wellies...Exactly how we would wear it! We were also flattered to be featured in the Dutch version of Cosmopolitan, in their "Things To Do" article. They opted for Kylie Minogue in the Square Stripe Balloon Dress as an example of the celebrities who wear the Mina brand!
